Amazon Ads Comes to ChatGPT: What Marketers Should Prepare

A customer may no longer begin with a short search such as “weekend city break.” They may describe their budget, travel dates and preferences in a conversation. Amazon Ads’ latest integration is designed to place advertising inside that kind of decision journey.

What did Amazon Ads announce?

On 10 September 2026, Amazon Ads announced a partnership with OpenAI to support advertising in ChatGPT. According to the announcement, select advertisers in the United States are testing the integration through a pilot. It allows advertisers to extend Amazon Ads campaigns into a conversational advertising experience on ChatGPT. Read the Amazon Ads announcement.

The announcement describes a route for reaching people while they explore options, compare choices and make decisions. It does not say that every Amazon Ads advertiser has access, and it does not announce availability in Türkiye.

Paid placement and AI answers are separate

This distinction matters. OpenAI says ChatGPT ads are clearly labelled, appear separately from answers and do not influence the answers people receive. Advertisers cannot pay to shape or rank ChatGPT’s response. Read OpenAI’s advertising FAQ.

That means a paid campaign and organic AI visibility solve different problems. An ad can buy placement in an eligible experience. Useful content, accurate facts and a technically accessible website help AI and search systems understand a brand. One does not replace the other.

Five things to prepare before testing

  1. Define the business goal. Decide whether the campaign should create awareness, generate a qualified visit or drive a sale. Do not use one metric for every stage.
  2. Check the destination page. The page should match the promise in the ad. Verify price, availability, location, cancellation terms and other decision-critical details.
  3. Write for a real question. Conversational research includes context. Prepare creative that explains who an offer is for, what problem it solves and its main limitation.
  4. Build a baseline. Record current paid traffic, conversion rate, assisted conversions and branded search before the pilot. This makes later comparisons more useful.
  5. Review controls and privacy. Confirm audience, geography, exclusions, claims and data-handling rules before launch. Do not assume that conversational context becomes advertiser-owned customer data.

A simple campaign example

Imagine a travel brand promoting a family city break. “Book now” gives little help to someone still comparing options. A stronger route is to state the dates, room type, cancellation conditions and what is included. The landing page should repeat the same verified information.

This example explains the preparation process; it is not a measured result from the Amazon Ads pilot.

How should teams measure the pilot?

Separate exposure, engagement and business results. Track impressions and clicks, but also landing-page quality, completed actions and assisted conversions. Compare performance with similar campaigns rather than crediting every change to ChatGPT alone. Creative, offer strength, seasonality and audience selection can also affect results.

OpenAI previously said advertisers could buy ChatGPT ads through partners or its beta self-serve Ads Manager, while OpenAI’s system controls delivery decisions. See OpenAI’s advertiser update. Access and features can change during a pilot, so teams should verify current eligibility before planning spend.

What should brands in Türkiye do now?

As of 12 September 2026, Amazon’s announcement identifies select U.S. advertisers in the pilot. Brands in Türkiye should not treat that as local availability. They can still prepare: improve landing-page facts, document campaign baselines and keep paid media reporting separate from AI-search visibility reporting.
