ChatGPT Ads Expands to 89 Markets: What Advertisers Should Check

OpenAI says ChatGPT Ads is now available in 89 countries after adding 26 markets on 21 October 2026. The announcement broadens access. It does not prove that every advertiser, campaign or market will perform better.

What changed

OpenAI says more than 100,000 advertisers have run ChatGPT campaigns since ads launched just over eight months ago. The company also reports more than 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users. These are OpenAI’s own platform figures, not independently audited performance benchmarks.

The new rollout includes 14 additional Latin American countries, with Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru named as examples. OpenAI also names Nigeria, South Africa, Serbia, Ukraine, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Pakistan among new markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Advertisers can use technology partners or self-service Ads Manager where access is enabled.

Ads appear only on the Free and Go plans. OpenAI says Plus, Pro and Enterprise remain ad-free. Availability can still depend on the advertiser account, local rules, campaign settings and product eligibility. Check the current market list inside Ads Manager before planning spend.

Why conversational ads differ from search ads

A search ad usually responds to one query. In a chat, intent can develop across several turns. A person may begin with a broad goal, add budget and delivery constraints, then ask about a product. OpenAI’s engineering note says its ads system keeps a separate stateful session and uses a dedicated model to interpret that changing context.

The ads system then calls tools for retrieval, eligibility checks, relevance, ranking and auctions. It runs separately from the model that writes the ChatGPT answer. OpenAI also says conversations remain private from advertisers, customer data is not sold, sponsored placements are labelled, and advertising does not influence organic answers.

A useful measurement detail: no ad is an ordinary outcome. Even a selected creative may arrive too late to appear. Server-side delivery is therefore not the same as a user-facing impression. Campaign reporting should keep eligibility, selection, delivery, impression, click and conversion as separate steps.

Five checks before launching

  1. Confirm eligibility. Verify the advertiser account, country, objective and product category in Ads Manager. Do not infer access from a global announcement.
  2. Make the offer precise. Keep price, availability, delivery area, returns and key limitations consistent across the creative and landing page.
  3. Localise the whole journey. Adapt language, currency, legal notices and customer support. Translation alone is not market localisation.
  4. Define measurement first. Confirm conversion events, attribution windows and analytics tags before increasing budget. Compare impressions with qualified visits and completed actions.
  5. Run a controlled pilot. Start with a narrow market and product set. Record every change to bids, creative, landing pages and targeting so results can be interpreted.

What this announcement does not tell us

The two primary sources are an OpenAI product announcement and an OpenAI engineering explanation published on the same day. They are not an independent study. They provide no country-level sample, comparative return-on-ad-spend benchmark or evidence that conversational ads outperform search or social ads. Results may vary by market, product, creative, measurement setup and campaign maturity.

For teams evaluating this channel, the practical question is not whether conversational advertising is “the future.” It is whether the platform is available for the exact account, whether the offer can be represented accurately, and whether the campaign can be measured without confusing delivery with business results.
